BUNGALOW ELEVEN
What was once a small and outmoded beachy bungalow in Santa Monica is re-envisioned with a modern twist. At Bungalow Eleven, the homeowners wanted to maintain the beachy vibe of their original home, while incorporating contemporary elements to make it feel fresh and new. The low-scale of the street-facing façade is preserved to harness the charm and character of the bungalow aesthetic, while the transformation of the interiors and the rear addition creates a unique and inviting space that is perfect for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying family time.
The juxtaposition of the traditional street-facing façade with the sweeping ceilings, large windows, and modern addition creates a unique and dynamic atmosphere. Expanding to the rear, the new kitchen and primary suite enjoy high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows – flooding the home with light, amplifying the feeling of spaciousness, and creating a strong connection with the outdoors.
The homeowners wanted to take advantage of the local climate and lifestyle by creating an "inside out" feel, where the back of the house opens up to create a strong connection between the home and its surroundings. The kitchen opens up to the back deck visually and physically to strengthen that connection and create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
